      William “Billy” D. Mays, Jr. (July 20, 1958 June 28, 2009) was a television direct-response advertisement salesperson most notable for promoting OxiClean, Orange Glo, and other cleaning, home-based, and maintenance products. His distinctive beard and loud sales pitches made him a recognizable television presence.[3] Biography Mays was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Sto-Rox High School in 1977, he began his career as a salesman on the Atlantic City boardwalk, selling the Washmatik portable washing device to passersby. Working alongside other pitchmen, he developed his style of salesmanship.[4] Mays later traveled to home shows, auto shows, and state fairs across the United States for a period of twelve years, selling various maintenance products and tools, including cleaning products and food choppers.[4] Rise to prominence At a Pittsburgh home show in 1993, Mays struck up a friendship with rival salesman Max Appel, founder of Orange Glo International, a Denver-based manufacturer of cleaning products. He was then hired by the company to promote their line of cleaners, OxiClean, Orange Clean, Orange Glo, and Kaboom on the Home Shopping Network in St. Petersburg, Florida.[5] Customer response to Mays’ sales pitches were enthusiastic, with a sharp increase in sales after his first day on the network, although some reviews were poor.         Today, the seller of Orange-Glo and Oxi-Clean has died, the 4th celebrity in the past 7 days to die, Billy Mays, he wasn’t as controvisial as Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, of course, because the 2 are still on the news, the 1st to die this week, Ed McMahon, was kicked off the news fast, with the death of Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, may all of them rest in peace. This morning at his home in Tampa, Florida, Billy Mays was found unresponsive after getting hit in the head on a plane the day before when the plane’s tires or brakes locked up upon landing, he later said, “Something hit me in the head, but I’ve got a hard head.” Later, after falling asleep, Billy Mays died this morning at 7:45AM in Tampa, Florida, he was 50, like Michael Jackson.         Nationally known TV ad pitchman Billy Mays, 50, was found dead this morning in his Tampa home, the Tampa Police Department reported. Billy Mays is best known as the TV spokesman for Oxy-Clean, Orange-Glo and most recently Discovery Channel show “Pitchmen” Mays was found unresponsive by his wife and the Tampa Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at 7:45 am, the report said. Billy Mays is the third young star in the last week to die an early and unfortante death: he follows Farrah Fawcett and pop star Michael Jackson. Apparently, Mays was on a US Airways plane that made a rough landing yesterday and might have hit his head.

He was then pronounced dead at 7:45 am, appearing to have died sometime overnight. The Associated Press reported that there were no indications that the house had been broken into, and that police did not suspect foul play. Mays had been aboard US Airways Flight 1241 from Philadelphia to Tampa that blew out its front tires as it landed at Tampa International Airport on June 27, the day before his death. None of the 138 passengers and five crew members were reported to be seriously injured immediately following the incident, but several passengers reported having bumps and bruises from falling objects. Mays told a local Tampa television station that some of the objects “hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.” It is unclear whether Mays’ death was related to the incident.

On the morning of June 28, 2009, Mays was found unresponsive in his Tampa home. He was then pronounced dead at 7:45 am, appearing to have died sometime overnight. The day before his death he was aboard a plane that blew out its front tires as it landed. No one on the plane was seriously injured. Mays told a local Tampa television station that some of the objects “hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.”
